The Engineering behind the Uti6c.

The entire scope, including the tripod weighs only 11.6 lbs.  The entire scope, including the tripod fits in a small carry-on case (22"x15"x8"). Total weight is ONLY 18 lbs.  Although the Uti6c is extremely light, it is durable and provides steady unprecedented views, even in 15 mph winds. The reason for this is the combination of materials, design, and features.  First, the tubes are made from hand rolled 5 ply pre-preg'd carbon fiber. These tubes are thermally stable, very resilient, and won't dent, warp, or bend.  Second, the trusses are pultruded carbon fiber. Very stiff and thermally stable. Each truss is built on a fixture insuring an exact reproducible length. This provides consistent set-ups each time you use the scope.  Third, our forks and tripods are made from 1/8" thick high strength aircraft aluminum. They are laser cut and computer formed. The use of computer machined and formed components insure dimensions that are held very precisely, to +-.005 and in some case +-.001.

Forth, each Uti6c comes equipped with SorboPads. These Sorbothane vibration dampers were co-designed by our engineers and the engineers at Sorbothane. These unique dampers are built into the tripod legs and provide high performance damping of any vibrations generated during the use of the scope. These dampers provide "rock steady" images at high magnification even when using the scope in 15 mph winds.  Finally, the Uti6c uses the all new Royce conical cross section mirror. This mirror was designed specifically for the Uti6c by RF Royce. It has 40% less mass then a conventional mirror which provides much faster cool down time. It is 40% lighter and the unique central post mount means it can't shift in the mirror cell. This cell mounting method along with the carbon trusses means virtually no collimation after each setup.

The Uti6c is the culmination of over 5 years of development of truly highly portable telescopes. The combination of design, materials, and features make the Uti6c a truly unique scope designed for the millennium astronomer.
